Jack Bolton

2024 Artist

Bass Jack Bolton recently completed a Bachelor of Music (Classical Voice Performance) at the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University, studying with Margaret Schindler.

During his studies, performance highlights included roles in staged productions of Philip Glass’ Orphée (Judge), Iolanthe (Private Willis) and scenes from Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Snug). He also won the Queensland Conservatorium’s Margaret Nickson Prize in 2021 alongside pianist Mai-Lien Olsson, was a prize winner at the 2023 National Liederfest for the Lieder Society of Victoria, and the winner of the Alton Budd Memorial Award at the Murwillumbah Festival of Performing Arts.

In 2022 Jack joined Brisbane’s Voxalis Opera, performing the role of Masetto in scenes from Mozart’s Don Giovanni in the company’s season finale, A Celebration of Opera, followed in 2023 by the roles of Giorgio Talbot and Sir Gualtiero Raleigh in The Two Queens, a staging of scenes from Donizetti’s Maria Stuarda and Roberto Devereux. At this time he also took part in the 2022 and 2023 iterations of the Lisa Gasteen National Opera Program.

Throughout his operatic development, he has worked with industry leaders such as director Stuart Maunder AM, conductor Johannes Fritzsch, and playwright and director Michael Gow.

Earlier this year, Jack was accepted into the Melba Opera Trust, Australia’s premier program for promising young singers, and is supported by the John & Elizabeth Wright-Smith Scholarship and the Annie McFarling Opera Scholarship. He is also the recipient of the 2024 Margaret Schindler Vocal Scholarship with Southern Cross Soloists, one of Australia’s pre-eminent classical music ensembles.
